ZAM Tough Coating: Steel That Doesn't Rust Like Everyone Else's
Every ChikoUSA carport and gazebo is built from ZAM Tough steel. ZAM stands for zinc, aluminum and magnesium, a next-generation hot-dip coating. As it weathers, the aluminum and magnesium form a dense, tightly bonded layer on top of the zinc, so the coating itself wears away far more slowly. ChikoUSA rates it at at least 3× the corrosion resistance of standard galvanized steel, the plain zinc coating used on many competing carports.
- Coastal and salt air: resists red rust in salt-spray conditions far better than standard hot-dip galvanized steel.
- Farms and livestock: holds up to the chloride and ammonia found around barns and animal housing.
- Bends and formed edges: keeps protecting even where the steel has been bent, which is usually where galvanized steel rusts first.
- Proven outdoors: in 8 years of outdoor exposure testing, ZAM showed about 4× the corrosion resistance of galvanized steel in both rural and coastal settings.
